University of Michigan researchers debut one-cubic-millimeter computer, world’s first complete millimeter-scale computing system and it may one day be just about everywhere also want to stick it in your eye.One Cubic Millimeter Computer is a prototype sensor consumes just a few nanowatts and could take glucose readings from the eye……..

Scientists and Engineers from the University of Michigan unveiled what they believe is the world's first millimeter-sized computer. It's just over one cubic millimeter, but large enough to feature an ultra low-power microprocessor, a pressure sensor, memory, a thin-film battery, a solar cell and a wireless radio with an antenna,  all that on a device that could fit on a pen tip.A prototype implantable eye pressure monitor for glaucoma patients is believed to contain the first complete millimeter-scale computing system.And a compact radio that needs no tuning to find the right frequency could be a key enabler to organizing millimeter-scale systems into wireless sensor networks. These networks could one day track pollution, monitor structural integrity, perform surveillance, or make virtually any object smart and trackable.

Researchers present papers on each today at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco. The work is being led by three faculty members in the U-M Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: professors Dennis Sylvester and David Blaauw and assistant professor David Wentzloff.Nearly invisible millimeter-scale systems could enable ubiquitous computing, and the researchers say that’s the future of the industry. They point to Bell’s Law, a corollary to Moore’s Law. Although such a tiny computer has an endless variety of uses, its first real test may be in medicine. At the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco earlier this week, researchers unveiled an eye pressure monitor designed to continuously track the progression of glaucoma, a disease that can lead to blindness.

Bell’s Law says there’s a new class of smaller, cheaper computers about every decade. With each new class, the volume shrinks by two orders of magnitude and the number of systems per person increases. The law has held from 1960s’ mainframes through the ’80s’ personal computers, the ’90s’ notebooks and the new millennium’s smart phones.“When you get smaller than hand-held devices, you turn to these monitoring devices,” Blaauw said. “The next big challenge is to achieve millimeter-scale systems, which have a host of new applications for monitoring our bodies, our environment and our buildings. Because they’re so small, you could manufacture hundreds of thousands on one wafer. There could be 10s to 100s of them per person and it’s this per capita increase that fuels the semiconductor industry’s growth.”

Blaauw and Sylvester‘s new system is targeted toward medical applications. The work they present at ISSCC focuses on a pressure monitor designed to be implanted in the eye to conveniently and continuously track the progress of glaucoma, a potentially blinding disease.The processor in the eye pressure monitor is the third generation of the researchers’ Phoenix chip which uses a unique power gating architecture and an extreme sleep mode to achieve ultra-low power consumption. The newest system wakes every 15 minutes to take measurements and consumes an average of 5.3 nanowatts. To keep the battery charged, it requires exposure to 10 hours of indoor light each day or 1.5 hours of sunlight. It can store up to a week’s worth of information.While this system is miniscule and complete, its radio doesn’t equip it to talk to other devices like it. That’s an important feature for any system targeted toward wireless sensor networks.Wentzloff and doctoral student Kuo-Ken Huang have taken a step toward enabling such node-to-node communication. They’ve developed a consolidated radio with an on-chip antenna that doesn’t need the bulky external crystal that engineers rely on today when two isolated devices need to talk to each other. The crystal reference keeps time and selects a radio frequency band. Integrating the antenna and eliminating this crystal significantly shrinks the radio system. Wentzloff’s is less than 1 cubic millimeter in size.

The eye monitor is intended to be implanted directly into a patient's eye and to take readings every 15 minutes. The battery is charged through a minuscule solar panel that requires only 10 hours of indoor light or 1.5 hours of sunlight per day. The computer has enough storage capacity to hold a week's worth of information. Researchers expect a commercial version of the eye monitor could be available within the next few years.Outside of medicine, the device may be one day used to track pollution, perform surveillance , monitor structural integrity or to make virtually any object smart and trackable.

Huang‘s key innovation is to engineer the new antenna to keep time on its own and serve as its own reference. By integrating the antenna through an advanced CMOS process, they can precisely control its shape and size and therefore how it oscillates in response to electrical signals.“Antennas have a natural resonant frequency for electrical signals that is defined by their geometry, much like a pure audio tone on a tuning fork,” Wentzloff said. “By designing a circuit to monitor the signal on the antenna and measure how close it is to the antenna’s natural resonance, we can lock the transmitted signal to the antenna’s resonant frequency.”“This is the first integrated antenna that also serves as its own reference. The radio on our chip doesn’t need external tuning. Once you deploy a network of these, they’ll automatically align at the same frequency.” The researchers are now working on lowering the radio’s power consumption so that it’s compatible with millimeter-scale batteries.Greg Chen, a doctoral student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, presents “A Cubic-Millimeter Energy-Autonomous Wireless Intraocular Pressure Monitor.” The researchers are collaborating with Ken Wise, the William Gould Dow Distinguished University Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science on the packaging of the sensor, and with Paul Lichter, chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the U-M Medical School for the implantation studies. Huang presents “A 60GHz Antenna-Referenced Frequency-Locked Loop in 0.13μm CMOS for Wireless Sensor Networks.” This research is funded by the National Science Foundation. The university is pursuing patent protection for the intellectual property and is seeking commercialization partners to help bring the technology to market.

Motorola new rugged QWERTY mobile phone has enter FCC to get product approval naming as the the Motorola WX450. The unannounced Motorola handset is a ruggedized bar-style QWERTY phone and looks like the Motorola Clutch i465 smartphone that support for iDEN.

The Motorola WX450 is a ruggedized bar-style QWERTY phone that is similar to the Clutch (sold by Nextel/Boost), but has support for quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band 850/1900MHz WCDMA, which makes it more likely to be sold by AT&T. The draft user manual also makes note of AT&T-branded services. Other features mentioned in the draft user manual include support for push-to-talk services, microSD support, and an FM radio, though these aren't confirmed. The FCC does confirm that the WX450 has Bluetooth and a keyboard, but the FCC documents don't include any information about Wi-Fi. Neither Motorola nor AT&T has announced this device.

According to a recent report of 9to5Mac that the new white iPad 2 will be launched at the coming iPad 2 event. Just days ahead of the official unveiling of the second-generation iPad, leaked pictures of a white iPad 2 have emerged suggesting the imminent arrival of a lighter-hued tablet.

If you look closely to the part above, you’ll notice a big hole for what’s expect to be Facetime camera. Not only that, they also showed the same digitizer above but in black. So Apple is widely expected to launch both black and white models of second-generation iPad.

Yes folks, it looks like the new iPad could come in white. That seems strange since Apple could not pull off an iPhone 4 with a white front, but I'm sure they figured out a way. The piece that we have (from Shenzhen City), thanks to the folks at the iFixYouri iPhone repairshop, is the "digitizer" sometimes known as the the thick bezel.

For those who don't know, Apple is going to launch the iPad 2 in an event by Apple on March 2. The upcoming iPad 2 will run iOS 4.3 firmware, will be thinner, having rear and front-facing camera(s), faster and will be able to work on both GSM and CDMA networks.

Motorola XOOM Overclocked To 1.5 GHz,Check Out These Benchmarks[Video]

XDA-Developer coolbho3000 has released a workaround that overclocks the XOOM’s dual-core 1GHz ARM-Cortex-A9 based Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC by 50 percent – 1.5GHz. However, this requires unlocking XOOM’s bootloader and rooting it.

Follow the instructions:

1. Make sure you've unlocked your Xoom's bootloader for flashing first, then root it.

2. Grab this zip and extract it.

3. Reboot into the bootloader by running:

adb reboot bootloader

4. Flash the boot image to your boot partition by running:

fastboot flash boot xoom_ocboot.img

5. Push the bcm4329.ko to your /system/lib/modules folder and reboot to re-enable wifi:

adb remount
adb push bcm4329.ko /system/lib/modules/bcm4329.ko

Lenovo i62 Dual SIM Touchscreen Phone

Lenovo Mobile has introduced the Lenovo i62 mobile phone. The new cell phone is a bar-styled form factor and capable to 720p HD video playback and Dolby Mobile technology for improves sound quality.

The Lenovo i62 phone brings a 3.2-inch touchscreen ASV (Advanced Super View Sharp TFT) display. With a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels (HVGA) and support for multi-touch, 5-megapixel camera, front-facing camera, 0.3MP for video calls, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, microSD card slot, 3.5 mm headphone jack and an FM radio. The Lenovo i62 Mobile for GSM / GPRS and UMTS / HSDPA mobile networks are developed. Lenovo has a new i62 Dual SIM card slots and makes the work at the same time.

Archos Introduced Archos Arnova 8 and Archos Arnova 10 Budget Android Tablets

Archos has introduced two new budget-friendly Android tablets, the Archos Arnova 8 and the Archos Arnova 10. Initially, both tablets will ship with a ARM9 600MHz processor and with resistive touch screens.

The Arnova 10 features a 10.1-inch resistive touchscreen, 600MHz processor, 8GB of built-in storage and is powered by Google's Android 2.1 mobile operating system. On the other hand the Arnova 8, features the same exact specs but does away with the 8GB of storage for just 4GB. Seeing how the specs of these devices are quick lackluster, it's no surprise that Archos has managed to keep the price down.

Cost of Arnova 8 and Arnova 10 is $149 and $199 respectively.

In April 2011, Archos is plans to release enhanced version of both models. They will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, a Rockchip RK2918 CPU, capacitive screens and 1080p HD video playback.

Apple iPad 2 Coming With iOS 5 Features

We are almost a day away from the Apple iPad 2 Announcement. A reports claim that Apple may release iOS 4.3 on March 2nd, Engadget claims that Apple will unveil iOS 5 alongside a new dual-core A5 iPad 2 with 512MB of RAM at the upcoming iPad 2 launch event. Hit the break for more details.

The iPad 2 is scheduled to be announced formally to the public next week, March 2 at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Many have speculated that it will more likely have new features and will be powered by the iOS 5 but we have yet confirm this nor are there any leaks suggesting that this is the case. We are free to speculate though and it would be nice timing for Apple to showcase a new version of the iOS considering that some of the new tablets that will be competing for market share will be powered by Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the newest version of the popular mobile device software made for tablets.

Apart from this, we know that the iPad 2 features are going to be spectacular as the iPad 2 is reportedly thinner with an anti-reflective screen. It will have a dual-core A5 processor along with 512MB of Ram. There will also be two cameras, similar to the fourth-gen iPod touch as well.

2011 Academy Awards: The Social Network(Facebook Movie) Won 3 of 8 Nominations

The Social Network, the highly acclaimed movie about the founding of Facebook, won 3 of 8 nominations at the 83rd Oscar Academy Awards. It was nominated for eight awards, including Best: Picture, Actor (Jesse Eisenberg who played as Mark Zuckerberg), Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score and Sound Mixing.

Despite losing to The King's Speech for Best Picture, The Social Network won 3 Oscar Awards including Best Film Editing by the dynamic duo Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter, Best Adapted Screenplay by American screenwriter, producer and playwright Aaron Sorkin, and Best original score by singer-songwriter, composer, and producer Trent Reznor.

The story revolves around Harvard undergraduate Mark Zuckerberg, who developed a computer program that will eventually become the phenomenally successful social networking site, Facebook. It was directed by David Fincher and features a cast of young ensembles including Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Brenda Song, Armie Hammer, Max Minghella, Rashida Jones, Joseph Mazzello, and Rooney Mara.

Yahoo Messenger to Mac OS X Lion iChat App

Apple has decided to add support to Yahoo's instant messenger protocol to its iChat system. According to Apple Insider, Apple has introduved iChat as a IM client for AOLs propriety Chat Protocol, then added support for Jabbar and XMPP, which is an Open IM Standard supported by Google Talk and Apple iChat Server.

iChat (formerly iChat AV) is an instant messaging software application developed by Apple Inc. exclusively for its Mac OS X operating system. It has audio, video and screen-sharing capabilities as well as text messaging. It uses a XMPP-like protocol, Bonjour, for user discovery, and it also allows for LAN communication.

iMarck90 a Blogger, who initially reported about this news on the Yahoo Client working with Voice and Video Chat. After Adding Microsoft Bing and Yahoo search to Safari on the both Desktop and iOS and also adding this iChat Video Support, Apple is pushing topromote FaceTime as its Video Calling Solution.

The Apple Company has already renamed its iSight Cameras as "FaceTime" and also develops and distributes FaceTime as a Standalone Application in the Mac App Store, which is independent from the iChat AV App that bundles as part of Mac OS X Lion.

MobileNotifier Brings iOS Notification to Your iPhone[Jailbreak Tweak]

Peter Hajas has announced a new beta of MobileNotifier, an open source notifications manager for iOS. It makes notifications unobtrusive and allows you to keep using existing apps. An elegant bar appears up top of your homescreen and with one tap you can choose to close or open the notification. Alerts will also appear on your lockscreen. When you double tap the Home button, you'll see a list of your recent alerts via the AlertDashboard.

An app called Muzik, by Dr. Wilson Gaming, allows you to play your iPod music in the style of Windows Phone 7 and the Zune. Muzik recently received some major updates to make it a more formidable clone of the Zune experience.

Just like the OS7 jailbreak theme, Muzik bears an eerily identical resemblance to the Windows Phone 7 interface. The app allows you to listen to your iPod's library and playback videos through iTunes file sharing like Apple's native iPod app.
You can skin your Windows Phone 7ish player with different themes. According to the developer, there seems to be a few issues with one of themes. You may need to do some manual tweaking. (For more information, check out the developer's forum.)

The best feature of Muzik perhaps is the ability to close it and get back to good ol' iOS – this way you get all the swish interface of Windows Phone 7 without, well, having to use Windows Phone 7.

Muzik is available for $0.99 in the App Store.

Update on iPhone 4 Unlock on Baseband 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 From Sherif Hashim

Good news for iPhone 4 users who are still waiting for unlock for baseband 2.10.04 And 3.10.01. Sherif Hashim has announced that he does have an exploit for both basebands, although this could be considered as too little evidence to support the imminence of the Ultrasn0w unlock release.

As iPhone Dev Team had announced earlier that they will not release the unlock until iOS 4.3 is made public to the users, and now iOS 4.3 is coming within weeks. However, the team will test the unlock on the newer firmware before releasing so add few more days after the final release of iOS 4.3 firmware update.
