Posted: 11 Mar 2011 12:47 AM PST Landmark flight brings program one step closer to demonstrating autonomous aerial refueling between two unmanned aircraft.NASA’s Global Hawk completes unmanned airborne refueling simulation and it will do it for real next year……. Northrop Grumman Corporation, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and NASA Dryden Flight Research Center took a major step toward demonstrating autonomous aerial refueling between two unmanned, high altitude aircraft, an operation never before performed. In a key risk reduction flight test, Northrop Grumman‘s Proteus test aircraft and a NASA Global Hawk flew as close as 40 feet apart at an altitude of 45,000 feet, an industry-setting record. The flight test was conducted in the challenging high altitude environment required for refueling of high altitude long endurance (HALE) unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Wake turbulence between the two aircraft as well as engine performance and flight control responsiveness in the stratosphere were evaluated. Simulated breakaway maneuvers were also conducted. The January flight was key to reducing risks as the program prepares for autonomous aerial refueling of two Global Hawks in the spring of 2012. “Demonstrating close formation flight of two high altitude aircraft, whether manned or unmanned, is a notable accomplishment,” said Geoffrey Sommer, KQ-X program manager at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector. “When you add autonomous flight of both aircraft into the mix, as we will do later in the KQ-X program, you gain a capability that has mission applications far beyond just aerial refueling.”The $33 million DARPA KQ-X program will demonstrate autonomous fuel transfer between two Global Hawks, enabling flights of up to one week endurance. KQ-X is a follow-on to a 2006 DARPA Autonomous Aerial Refueling Demonstration (AARD), in joint effort with NASA Dryden, which used an F-18 fighter jet as a surrogate unmanned aircraft to autonomously refuel through a probe and drogue from a 707 tanker. Northrop Grumman supports the operation of the two Global Hawks used in the KQ-X program under the terms of a Space Act Agreement with its NASA Dryden partner and is responsible for all engineering design, as well as modification of both aircraft.Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.

Chinese site iDealsChina claims that they have got the engineering diagrams of the new iPhone 5. The images fits well with the earlier leaked panel images of iPhone 5 and they resemble iPhone 4 with an addition of larger edge to edge screen as been expected in the new iPhone 5. Here's what they have told in their official website: We just got what appears to be mold engineering drawings for iPhone 5. These would be used by case designers to create plastic, TPU, aluminum, silicone and leather cases. A while back we hear rumors that iPhone 5 would have a curved back but these images show iPhone 5 with the same form factor as iPhone 4 but with an edge to edge screen. The site has earlier also leaked design of the 4th Generation iPod Nano which turned out to be an accurate. Soon we can expect more images and parts of the iPhone 5.

Charlie Miller Hacked iPhone 4 At Pwn2Own Contest Posted: 10 Mar 2011 10:27 PM PST Charlie Miller has successfully hacked an Apple product at Pwn2Own 2011 hacking contest at Vancouver. This year he has successfully hacked an iPhone 4 via Safari resulting in access to the Address Book. This genius won the contest for the 4th time consecutively. The attack simply required that the target iPhone surfs to a rigged web site. On first attempt at the drive-by exploit, the iPhone browser crashed but once it was relaunched, Miller was able to hijack the entire address book. Miller partnered with colleague Dion Blazakis to successfully exploit the Apple device using a MobileSafari flaw to swipe the iPhone 4′s address book. After winning, Dion tweeted: From his tweet: @0xcharlie @dancaselden and I won the iPhone PWN2OWN. What a pain in the ass — glad it wasn't iOS 4.3 (vuln still there, tho) Miller performed the hack on an iPhone running iOS 4.2.1 and it will not work if you have upgraded to the current iOS 4.3. Miller stated about the newest version of iOS and how it's more protected: If you update your iPhone today, the [MobileSafari] vulnerability is still there, but the exploit won't work. I'd have to bypass DEP and ASLR for this exploit to work. Miller and his partner Dion Blazakis took home $15,000 in cash and the hijacked iPhone 4.
New Exploit for Permanent iPhone 4 Unlock Is On The Way Posted: 10 Mar 2011 10:10 PM PST MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed about a new exploit (NCK) which was discovered few hours ago and expected to permanently unlock the iPhone 4 basebands. This new exploit is under work and is yet to be tested out. These news has been confirmed by the most popular iPhone hacker MuscleNerd and the well-known iPhone enthusiast Vincent on their Twitter accounts: MuscleNerd: To those patiently ignoring all the chatter from “promises” we never made comes a jewel: NCK unlock code is just 40 bits! MuscleNerd: (if turns out to be true, it’s unexpected surprise for those w/vuln BB’s. All the data is there for 40-bit brute force) Veeence: The NCK @MuscleNerd is talking about is the code that allows to unlock the baseband. Veeence: The exploit the got now gives you enough information to bruteforce crack your unique NCK key -> gives you an (official) permanent unlock. The following FAQ (courtesy of Vincent) will help answer most of your questions related to this new permanent iPhone 4 unlock exploit. Since there is a lot of confusion out there, and since I'm repeating myself all the time (which I do not really like), I made this little write up of questions that are continuously being asked (my personal FAQ). Please not that this is a global explanation. Don't try to argue with me on specific details. 1. What happened?! I thought the unlock for basebands 02.10.01 & 03.10.01 would be released within the next 2 weeks? As you know the Dev-Team (MuscleNerd) have been working on the unlock for quite a while now. They were making great progress on the unlock, but they found out that they (accidentally) unlocked “one particular SIM card” instead of the baseband itself. Which means that the unlock would only be an unlock you could use with MuscleNerd's T-Mobile SIM. So, useless. If the unlock would unlock the baseband instead of “the SIM”, it'd probably be out within 2 weeks (reasonable timeframe which they had hoped). But things turned out to be different. Basically these <2 weeks predictions were a lack of information. 2. What is this NCK-key cracking? How does it work? The NCK-key is the key generated by Apple if you'd officially unlock you iPhone, and with officially I mean, via your carrier. This "NCK-unlock" method is known over a few years now, actually since geohot started working on unlocking the iPhone 2G. He developed a program that could "crack" this 15 digits long key and unique for every device. Geohots NCKBF program could do around 100,000 keys/second which would produce a hit in many years, or complete a search in 317 years. To get to a point where this is actually doable we would need many orders of magnitude of improvement. Even if you use a PS3 (would we still want to use this??) or special hardware (within 1,000 US$ range) you will only get an improvement of 20-100 times.. which doesn't help much. Now, luckily, with the exploits they have now, they can't unlock your baseband, but they *can* capture more information from the baseband to speed up this cracking process. Since the NORID and CHIPID (unique for every device) are known, you'd apparently only have to check 40 more bits (5 digits). A 40 bits key is theoretically crackable on "home hardware" within a week (24/7). The downside of this approach is that you'll have to keep your computer turned on, and your iPhone has to be connected. And that is the reason why they never tried it before. Please note that this method is completely theorical and has been NOT tried at all till this moment. 3. Now what? Should I sell my locked iPhone 4? I'd wait for more information on this "NCK-unlock". Right now it's pretty vague what timeframe we're talking about. If the Dev-Team can pull this method off, it'd be very promising for those waiting for an unlock. If this method turns out to be not doable, I'd consider selling your iPhone 4 and save up for a factory unlocked iPhone 5. 4. Do you think there is every going to be an unlock? Of course. But that's unlikely to be any time soon (with soon being <1 month). 5. If the NCK method fails, how long do you think it will take for the Dev-Team to unlock the iPhone 4? No ETA at all. Could be a few weeks, but it could easily be a few months as well. Anyway, we hope this new exploit will successfully work to unlock iPhone 4. Stay with us for the latest jailbreaking and unlocking news.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3 Final Version Using PwnageTool[How To] Posted: 10 Mar 2011 08:32 PM PST Apple has already released the final version of iOS 4.3. On the other hand unofficial PwnageTool bundles has also been released. Now the developer of unofficial PwnageTool bundles, DjayB6 has confirmed that the just released iOS 4.3 final and public version can be jailbroken using existing version of PwnageTool and unofficial PwnageTool bundles without using Ramdisk Fixer utility. It is to be noted that iOS 4.3 jailbreak using these unofficial PwnageTool bundles is tethered. So you have to connect your device with PC for successful reboot. The unlockers should stay away from this method of jailbreaking because Ultrasn0w unlocking tool is broken on iOS 4.3 due to ASLR implementation. The steps are as follow. Disclaimer: This guide is for testing and educational purposes only. Please don't follow the steps mentioned below if you don't know what you are going to do. We won't be responsible for any damage to your anything. Part 1: Download the Required Tools: Download the following tools before you start the actual jailbreak process: * Download latest iTunes 10.2.1 and install it on your Mac machine. Part 2: Patching / Modifying PwnageTool using custom bundles Since official Pwnagetool doesn't support iOS 4.3, we have to modify it using the custom PwnageTool bundles. Step 1: Right click on the PwnageTool which you download in Par-1 and then click on "Show Package Contents". Step 2: Navigate to this path /Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles and put the bundle folder which you downloaded for your device in Part 1 in this location. Step 3: Close the folder. Part 3: Patching Ramdisk Now we have to fix the broken PwnageTool ramdisk process to support iOS 4.3. Step 1: Launch Universal Ramdisk Fixer. Step 2: Follow the simple on-screen instruction to fix the ramdisk. Part 4: Creating Custom iOS 4.3 Step 1: Launch the updated iTunes. Step 2: Back up your device. Step 3: Launch modified PwnageTool. Step 4: Now select your iPhone and click the blue arrow to continue. Step 5: Browse for iPSW file (iOS 4.3) which you have already downloaded in Part 1. (Make it sure that iPSW file is placed on desktop) Step 6. Now hit the Build button to cook the custom firmware and save it on your PC. Part 5: Restoring iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Put your iPhone into DFU mode. PwnageTool will help you in this process. Follow the onscreen instructions for this purpose. * Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds After the iPhone is in DFU mode, launch iTunes and it will tell you it has found an iPhone in recovery mode. Press OK to continue. To install the custom cooked firmware, press the Alt/Option key and click on "Restore" in iTunes. Now wait for few minutes until iTunes does its job. The iPhone will reboot after it has been restored successfully. Part 6: Booting the Device in Tethered Boot Since iOS 4.3 jailbreak is tethered, we will have to connect the device with PC and use a software "tetheredboot" to boot it into a tethered jailbroken state. Tetheredboot utility requires two files from iOS 4.3 to do its jobs. The names of those files are * kernelcache.release.n90, To get these files, change the extension of iOS 4.3 from .ipsw to .zip and extract it. You will find them under /Firmware/dfu/ folder. Put all these files and tetheredboot utility into a new folder on desktop and name it "tetheredboot". Method 1 to Invoke Tethered Boot: Start terminal and run the following commands: sudo -s type your admin password and run: /Users/aamirusman/Desktop/tetheredboot/tetheredboot Replace "aamirusman" with the name of user on your Mac machine and "Desktop" with name of location where you placed the "tetheredboot" folder. When you are asked to put your device into DFU mode, follow the same method you used in Part 5. After a short period of time you will see "Exiting libpois0n" in the terminal windows which indicates your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch will be booted within few moments. Method 2 to Invoke Tethered Boot: Put your device into DFU mode. Open the terminal and run the following commands. cd /Users/username/Desktop/Tetherboot/ You can also check this command, posted by DjayB6 over twitter, to boot the device tethered.
