Sharp Electronics Corporation is shipping all four of the LE830 Series AQUOS Quattron LED LCD TV models it introduced at CES in March, including models in 60-inch, 52-inch, 46-inch and 40-inch screen size classes. All models employ Sharp’s proprietary edge-lit LED X-Gen LCD panels and Quattron Quad Pixel Technology for the widest color palette available from LCD TVs and brighter images. Built-in WiFi in all models delivers wide network functionality such as video streaming from the Internet and throughout the home, as well as Sharp’s best-in-class AQUOS Advantage Live customer service. Each AQUOS Quattron model features Sharp’s proprietary Quad Pixel Technology that adds the color Y (yellow) to the three colors of R (red), G (green) and B (blue) of the traditional television pixel structure. This technology enables the reproduction of colors that have been difficult to portray using conventional LCD displays, such as the brass color of musical instruments. The addition of the yellow sub-pixel also allows more light to pass through to the panel. Sharp’s advanced pixel control technology minimizes light leakage while offering a wider aperture to let more light through. The combination of these factors results in brighter, more vibrant images. Sharp’s LE830 Series models also employ Quad Pixel Plus to improve image resolution.

These models also offer built-in WiFi and access to Netflix, VUDU and CinemaNow, as well as four HDMI inputs for simple connections to multiple HD components. An attractive slim and narrow bezel design provides a great complement to any home theater viewing environment. The new Sharp AQUOS Quattron LCD TVs boast extremely low power consumption and are ENERGY STAR 5.1 qualified, the highest energy efficiency specification.Sharp Electronics Corporation announced it had been selected to receive a 2011 Excellence in Energy Efficient Product Design Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency‘s (EPA) ENERGY STAR program. Plugless Power

Posted: 26 Mar 2011 02:57 AM PDT

Google HQ gets juiced with Plugless Power EV charging unit and has installed a plugless electric car charger, designed by Virginia-based Evatran LLC to charge up plug-in electric cars on its Mountain View, Calif. campus.Plugless Power hands-free charging technology provides Google with a convenient option for recharging its electric vehicles and based on inductive technology, which has been used in electrical transformers for more than 100 years and streamlines the charging of electric cars and extended-range hybrids by eliminating the nuisance of the cord and the plug……….

Using technology similar to that available in an electric toothbrush, Google is trialing a Plugless Power charging station for electric vehicles at its Mountain View, Calif. headquarters. Plugless Power is the first electric vehicle (EV) charging system on the market to offer consumers a simple way to charge their EVs with the ease of hands-free, automatic technology.Developed by Evatran, LLC, Plugless Power is based on inductive technology which has been used in electrical transformers for more than 100 years and streamlines the charging of electric vehicles and extended-range hybrids by eliminating the nuisance of the cord and the plug.“We are thrilled to have our first public release of the Plugless Power technology installed at Google’s headquarters,” said Tom Hough, co-founder and CEO of Plugless Power. “The interest shown by Google and the cooperation we’ve received to retrofit their EV provides evidence that a simple, convenient charging process is needed for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.”

Google has multiple low-speed electric vehicles for short-range travel around its campus and includes plug-in vehicles in its on-campus employee car-sharing program. The company will initially use the Plugless Power station to charge a retrofitted short-range electric vehicle. Google showed interest in testing the Plugless Power technology and understanding how its features could simplify the charging process for its plug-in EV fleet vehicles.According to Hough, this first public installation is an important step in bringing the technology to commercial customers, and Evatran is actively seeking other fleet trial opportunities with corporations and municipalities to experience the Plugless Power technology in the third quarter of 2011. Most EV models are eligible for Plugless Power through a simple retrofit process. In addition to fleet distribution, Evatran is currently working with automotive manufacturers to integrate the Plugless Power technology into mass-market EVs by 2012.

How To Enable HDR Photo Capturing Feature on iPhone 3G/3GS

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:39 PM PDT

Apple first introduced the most amazing feature HDR (High Dynamic Range) in iOS 4.1. This feature is not available by default on the iPhone 3G/3GS, as Apple promotes this as an exclusive for the iPhone 4! But now you can enable this feature if you have a jailbroken iPhone.

The steps are as follows.

Step 1: First plugin your iPhone to the PC via an SSH connection.

Step 2 (a): If you are using the iPhone 3G, browse for the file located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist and save this file locally on your computer.

Step 2 (b): If you have an iPhone 3GS, then browse the file located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist and save this file locally on your computer.

Step 3: Now use a text editor to open the file that you saved in Step 2 and insert the line of under 'Capabilities' as shown below:

hdr-image-capture

Step 4: Now save the file and replace it on the device with your modified version using the SSH/SFTP software that you used to download the file earlier. Now restart the SpringBoard, or just reboot your device.

Step 5: Finally you should now have access to the HDR setting in the camera application.

That’s it.

Step 4: At the end of file add the string 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com useful to redirect requests for certificates for authenticity that iTunes will make to the Saurik server. You may follow the steps below to do so.

Windows users

* Open Notepad with administrator privileges and then right click on the icon of notepad and click on "Open as administrator"
* Now that Notepad is open Go to folder C:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc and open the file
* Add the following line at the end of the document and save it: 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Mac users

* Navigate to Go -> Go to Folder and enter the path /etc
* Open the file hosts with TextEdit, add the following string 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com and save the file to your desktop.
* Now return to the previous folder by following the same method and copy the text within this file by replacing the original file (If prompted for a password enter it and click OK)

Step 5: Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left "alt" (option) button on Mac, or Left "Shift" button if you are on Windows on the keyboard and then click on "Restore" (Not "Update" or "Check for Update") button in the iTunes and then release this button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2.1 or 4.1 firmware file. Select the desired ipsw file and click on "Open" to restore your iOS device.

Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don't do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the requested firmware on your iOS device. Your device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. Once done, it will reboot automatically.

Now in some cases while restoring to iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2.1 or 4.1, iTunes might throw 1013 error at you as shown in the screenshot below. This is normal, just ignore this error as the firmware has already been successfully installed on the device.

Incase of the above mentioned error, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be stuck in Recovery Mode, showing that "Connect to iTunes" screen.

To exit your device from Recovery Mode, download this program called TinyUmbrella (Windows/Mac). Run it and the click on "Exit Recovery" button. Your device will now restart normally.

That's it, you should now be able to jailbreak and unlock your device on the older iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2.1 or iOS 4.1 firmware.

iPhone Has the World’s Most Famous Camera[Infographic]

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:51 AM PDT

Guys at Geekaphone have managed to gather every bit of info to prove that iPhone is World's Number one Camera and in reality, it is. They have written over 5 parts series and infographic reviews and analyzes the iPhone as a camera and Apple's rise as a black knight in the photography arena.

In some ways, comparing the camera in the iPhone 4 to a high end DSLR is like comparing a hamburger from the local pub to an 18 oz. porterhouse from Peter Luger's Steak House in New York. Yet, the hamburger is pretty darned good and most people eat hamburgers more often than they do expensive prime grade steaks. A comparison of this nature is unfair to the iPhone. It's not designed to compete with a DSLR and to expect it to compete at that level is unrealistic. However, it is a camera, among other things, and we compare cameras of different levels all the time.

Let’s check the beautiful inforaphic designed by Geekaphone.

Check out the full report for more insights into just how well the iPhone stacks up against 'real' cameras.

Android 2.3 Coming To Xperia X10

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 06:35 AM PDT

Xperia X10 to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update this summer and it is certainly a great news for Xperia X10 owners, who were sulking till now.The software will be similar to what Sony Ericsson will be offering on their newer Android phones, the Xperia Arc, Neo, Pro and Play……..

Sony Ericsson announced that the Xperia X10 smartphone would not be receiving any updates past Android 2.1 Eclair. And well, it seems that story has been re-written and now has a happier ending.Sony Ericsson has announced plans to update the Xperia X10.Xperia X10 is going to be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Or more specifically, Android 2.3.3. Except with that does come the wait, as of now the timeline is the rather generic sounding end Q2 / early Q3. But , at least Xperia X10 owners know that it is coming. It seems the reasoning behind the update is because of the users, nice to see that the users word is not only being heard, but also being taken into consideration. The vocal users were not the sole reason behind the update news. In addition there is also mention that the development of the software for our new 2011 range of Xperia phones gave us a solution that made it possible to deliver Gingerbread on Xperia X10.With that, there are a few other catches to keep in mind for when this update arrives first being all your data will be lost during the update process. In other words, you will need to have a good backup before going from 2.1 to 2.3. A few other tidbits in terms of changes and/or limitations with 2.3 worth apointing out include:

  • The current plan is that the XperiaTM X10 will get the Android standard Camera user interface and therefore features like e.g. face recognition, smile shutter etc will be lost.
  • Moxier is replaced by the gingerbread native EAS functionality.
  • Mediascape is being replaced by the media experience widgets and music player included in our new 2011 products.
  • DRM keys for protected content on your phone will be lost in the upgrade process.
  • The Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore client is not supported in the Gingerbread version and will therefore be lost.
  • Support for bi-directional languages will be reduced compared to the latest version of the 2.1 version of the XperiaTM X10.
